Fate is a funny thing, sometimes. In 1998, Albert moved from Los Angeles to New York with intentions of attending film school at NYU. As luck would have it, the apartment he moved into was across the street from the place where Julian worked, only further lending to the strangely magical air surrounding the band. And the timing for his arrival couldn't be better. Unhappy with the prospect of playing an instrument while singing, Julian felt the then-embryonic Strokes were in sore need of an additional guitarist. Which was exactly what Albert was able to provide. Generally portrayed as a dapper ladies' man, the newest member of The Strokes learned his way around the guitar at nine, but didn't seriously begin playing until his induction to the band. He has a tendency toward sticking his hand down his pants. Trust me. There's photographic evidence. We can only assume it is because he has terrible circulation and that it's warm down there. [G]
